As a parent of young girls, you might find that they are getting to the stage in their lives where they are ready for their first sleepover. When you are hosting your first sleepover at your house, you need to think about girls’ sleepover activities.

You probably can look back fondly on your own memories of a girls’ sleepover. The late-night chats, the midnight feasts, and lots of fun with your friends. If you are hosting a girls’ sleepover then you might be wondering what you need to make it epic for your daughter and her friends. After all, being organized, means they are occupied, having a good time, and having lots of fun. I want to share with you everything that you need to consider for a sleepover and all of the slumber party ideas that are so much fun.
What do you need for a girls’ sleepover?
First of all, it is important for you to think about some of the basics that you might need to ensure that the girls’ sleepover goes to plan. Organizing slumber party games and activities, whether it is for one friend or all of their best friends. So I wanted to share with you some of the things to think about ahead of the girls’ sleepover taking place.
A Whatsapp group
A quick way to organize and invite all of the relevant girls to the sleepover is to create a Whatsapp group. It means that you can post in there the day it will be taking place, the time in which the girls can be dropped off, and also keep in contact with their moms throughout the evening. No matter how old our children get, it is always nice to hear they are safe, well, and having a good time when they are away from home. You can also post some pictures of the fun things that the girls are doing, knowing that they are only reaching the relevant phones.
Create a space or think about the sleeping arrangements
Another thing you might need to think about is the sleeping arrangements. Not all of the attendees will bring their own sleeping bag, so having some spares to hand will be essential to ensure everyone is comfortable when they eventually fall asleep.
You might also want to clear some space in your daughter’s bedroom or consider a different room like a living room or study for the sleepover to take place. Most importantly, you want space, so that everyone can feel comfortable and they can enjoy some of the girls sleepover activities that you have planned.
If you have the space, then you can designate one room as the sleeping space with soft lighting and comfy cushions. Include some twinkle lights, some soft music and glow sticks. Another idea would be to create an indoor camping feel using actual tents or by hanging up sheets. Make sure the sleeping area is cozy and calm. You can then have the activities in another room or your backyard or a combination of both.
Snacks and drinks
One of the great ideas to consider is to ensure that you have plenty of drinks and snacks in your home. These don’t necessarily need to be too sugary or junk food, but some treats will be appreciated. You could look at getting some candy, chocolate, and crisps.
You could also offer a fruit platter as a more healthy option with a white chocolate or milk chocolate dip. Be sure to have some popcorn if your sleepover pary is including a movie night. If you wanted to, you could look online and make some homemade treats like cookies or brownies.
If the sleepover has some sort of theme then you could look at creating some themed snacks. Lastly, make sure you have drinks to hand. It might be a good idea to get some individual bottles of water or allocate cups to specific kids so that they can refill as and when they want to.

Popcorn Bar
Dare to be different with a popcorn bar where your guest can create their own popcorn combos. Hire or borrow a popcorn maker then set up an area where the girls can add their own toppings such as butter, salt, chocolate, sprinkles, maple syrup, cinnamon and caramel. Let the kids mix and match the popcorn with trail mix, raisins, chocolate chips and pretzels. The best part is that if your sleepover party has a theme, you can easily incorporate the theme into your popcorn bar with the cartons/buckets and signage.
Meals
You might also need to think about meals. Plan an evening meal and breakfast depending on what time the girls arrive or leave the following day. Think ahead and check whether there are any food allergies to consider or whether there are certain things they don’t like to eat.
If you feel confident in the kitchen then you could always make your own pizza and get the girls to add the toppings. However, the easiest option is likely to be takeout pizza in the evening.
You could offer the usual breakfast options in the morning but you can also jazz up your offering. I suggest that most girls love pancakes or waffles and they can add their own toppings. Croissant would be another choice, with sweet and savory fillings on offer. All you have to do is gently warm the croissant in the over and let the girls do the rest.
The girls’ sleepover activities to consider
Once you have gotten the sleepover organized and you have thought about the little details the next thing to consider is how you are going to keep them occupied during the sleepover. Let’s face it, there are a lot of hours to fill and they certainly won’t be going to bed at their usual time. So I wanted to share with you some of the girls’ sleepover activities that you could consider organizing.
Games
Scavenger hunt
A great idea that might need a little forward thinking and organizing would be a scavenger hunt. This could take place all over the house and even in the garden if it is a nice evening or the summer months. The scavenger hunt could be anything from finding candy and treats or answering pop quiz questions. You could get some great templates online and ideas on clues or questions that you can put into your scavenger hunt. It can be as simple or as complicated as you like but this could pass some time and keep them occupied, especially if you are preparing food or waiting for that takeout pizza to arrive.
A simple idea would be to collect 100 coins and hide them in the backyard for the girls to find.
Board games
Another great option would be board games. There has been a time when board games were seen as a little dated and boring but they are making a big comeback. You will find that there are a lot of fun games to enjoy. If you have some of the vintage board games then you could pull these out or perhaps invest in some new board games. The great thing about board games is that you will get tonnes of use out of them. Think family games nights or they could be used for sleepovers in the future. I have some great mystery game ideas for you here.

Physical games
You could also encourage the girls to enjoy some physical games as well. This is a great way to help them use up some energy and get rid of the build-up of excitement that will have been generated in the lead-up to the sleepover. It would be wise to include more exciting games at the start of the evening and more gentle calm activities later in the evening. You have more chances of sweet dreams if you plan your schedule of activities carefully. Classic sleepover games include:
Twister
This is a game that requires balance and coordination. You have a sheet that you lay down that is covered in blue, yellow, green, and red colored circles. Then there is a board with a spinner that will tell you where to place your left or right hands, or your left and right feet. The next player has to work around the previous participants. The winner of the game is the one that is the last one standing.
Choreograph a dance routine
What girl gang doesn’t love to create a dance routine? While it may not be for everyone, many girls enjoy this sort of thing. Perhaps they want to teach their friends a routine they have learned at their dance class, copy a YouTube video or practice a TikTok routine they have seen, or maybe even make one up themselves. This could be something that keeps them occupied for a long time.
Workouts
Lastly, why not encourage them to do a workout? There are many dances or Zumba workouts they could do online on platforms like YouTube and it can be a great way to get them moving. Kids yoga might be a fun way to calm the girls down before bed.
Pillow fight
What slumber parties are complete without the traditional pillow fight? While this can sometimes end in tears if you are not careful, a pillow fight can be a lot of fun. A great tip would be to buy some cheap pillows on websites like Amazon. If they do get ripped or ruined for one reason or another at least they aren’t your decorative pillows or ones that you have invested in.
Obstacle Course
Create an indoor or outdoor obstacle course then time each kid as they make their way through the course.

Makeovers
Another option when looking for girls sleepover activities is to consider makeovers. This is something that you could help them with or let them go wild on each other. They could practice different makeup looks or just spend time making over each other. Here are some of the things they could do:
Nail polish and paint each others nails
This is something that could be a great option to consider when looking for girls sleepover activities. You could provide a selection of different nail polish colors and they could spend some time painting each others nails. They could also have a go at doing different designs, perhaps adding false nails or some nail art.
Put makeup on each other
Teen girls might enjoy putting some makeup on each other. They could look online and try and copy different makeup looks. Or perhaps they just want to practice things like contouring. Buy each girl a set of makeup brushes from the dollar store
Doing each others hair
You could also set up some hair accessories and appliances that they could use to do eachothers hair. If you can trust them with hair straighteners or curlers, then they could have a lot of fun creating different styles for each other. You could also try hair braiding or simply plait a colored ribbon into the hair.
Dressing up
Lastly, perhaps they could look at dressing up. Maybe you have a box of vintage clothes from a time gone by that they could put looks together with, or maybe you could ask their friends to each bring an outfit and they could try swapping and putting styles together. Mark out a runway with masking tape on the floor then get the girls to put on a fashion show There will be plenty of inspiration for them on platforms like Pinterest. If you have the time, why not visit some thrift stores and buy different items for them to wear?

Pampering time
A sleepover often means a time to enjoy some pampering. So if you want to organize some girls sleepover activities with this theme in mind then here are some suggestions.
Pedicures
You could set up an area where the girls could do pedicures on each other. Foot soaks and little bowls of water for them to dip tier cuticles in along with some nail files are just some of the things you might need for this.
Face masks
You could also get some great face masks for the girls to use. There are so many different options such as clay masks to sheet masks. Sheet masks are the easiest and least messy and make for some great photos! You could even slice up some cucumber that they could place over their eyes while they relax with their face mask on.
Sleepover discos
Music is a great way to lift any mood and get a party started, so you may want to encourage a sleepover disco when thinking of girls’ sleepover activities. Here are my tips for a successful dance party:
Glow sticks
What’s not to like about glow sticks? You can pick up some great value packs and use them to have a disco or a rave.
Playlists
Ask each of the girls to create a playlist with five songs. Then they can have fun listening to eachothers song choices. Or, if you think you can handle it, why not create a playlist for the sleepover yourself?
Other girls sleepover activities
There are lots of other great ideas that are perfect for when thinking about girls sleepover activities. Some of them could be an ongoing activity they enjoy whereas others might be things they do at different stages of the sleepover. Here are some of the other activities you might want to consider:
Making a blanket fort
If your girls love to be creative or have fun making things then why not encourage them to build a blanket fort? This could be where they eventually sleep and it will feel like camping, just indoors.
Camp outside
On the subject of camping, if it is a warm summer’s evening why not organize for the girls to sleep outside? If you have a tent you could spend time decorating it and making it girls and a little piece of paradise for them. They will feel completely grown up, and you can keep a watchful eye from a distance.

Watching a movie
There is nothing more fun and relaxing than at the end of the evening settling down with some popcorn and enjoying a movie. You could suggest some of the romantic comedy classics or girly films, or let them choose. Whether it is a Harry Potter marathon or they watch a classic like Grease this is a great way to pass some time and settle down for the night.
Crafting
Creating friendship bracelets
Lastly, if the girls love to be creative then a great option when looking for girls sleepover activities is to get them to create some friendship bracelets. You could use things like look bands, or even create friendship bracelets with cotton. If they have never done this before there are plenty of tutorials online for them to follow.
Felt wreath
Each girl could make a felt wreath using colors of felt that match the theme of the party. The completed wreath can then be taken home and you won’t have to provide party favors.
Dollar store terrarium
Using inexpensive materials from the dollar store, the party guest can make a cute terrarium to take home. You can find full instructions here.
Bath Bombs
Make DIY bath bombs that they can take home and use. When buying supplies, remember to add some paper bags to make it easy to take completed bath bombs home.
How do I make a girls’ sleepover special?
Pick an unusual theme but choose one that matches the interest of the girl having the party. This could be anything from a dinosaur theme to a fairy theme.
Organize activities that are different from the other sleepover parties that the girls have been to. How about creating a fun photo booth with a cardboard frame and fun props? Think hats, scarves, funky glasses and feathers. The girls will have a great time posing for photos.
Schedule the activities so that they become calmer as the evening goes on. Write the schedule on a chalkboard or large sheet of paper so that all the guests know what to expect.
Think about the party favors. One idea is to buy cheap pencil cases and then use them as the party favor, filling them with candy and pens.
Final tips for when organizing a girls sleepover
While you may be focused on the girls sleepover activities, the food, and making sure everyone can make it, I wanted to share with you some final tips to ensure that the sleepover is a huge success.
Have a first aid kit to hand
While nobody wants to predict that there will be a need for a first aid kit, it is always worth having one on standby and fully stocked with things such as plasters, anti-septic wipes, and some anti-septic cream. Accidents can happen, especially when there is a lot of excitement to be had. You probably won’t need it, but you will likely feel more assured that you will be prepared for anything.
Allergies and medicine
I know I mentioned allergies when discussing food but it is also worth knowing any allergies they may have to ensure that you can keep them completely safe. You might find that some of the attendees might need to take ongoing medication, perhaps they are on a course from the doctors or have an inhaler to help with ongoing issues like asthma. Make sure you are fully briefed. A responsible parent will always advise you ahead of time if their child needs extra care or attention. This is when the WhatsApp group can be helpful as you will have all the information in one place.
Keep them hydrated
It is important to ensure that you keep your guests hydrated. Have plenty of bottles of water on hand, or weather easily accessible in the refrigerator so that they can keep topping up their cups or glasses when they get thirsty. This is especially important during the summer months.

Finally…
It isn’t easy to have extra people in your home, especially young girls who may be talking louder than the others to get attention and generally being silly and just having fun. Try and remember how you were at that age and keep your cool. Embrace it! Have fun organizing and getting involved with the girls sleepover activities you have organized and remember it is only temporary. You will get your home back, and some peace and quiet, before you know it.
After the party, make some notes about what went well and what you did so that you can refer back to them when you have the next slumber party.
